Robert Abrams Art
Artist, Curator, Educator
Robert's journey in the arts began in 1993 when he first stepped into a pottery class. Since then, clay has remained his medium of choice—a continual source of fascination, expression, and inspiration. As owner and curator of the Abrams Claghorn Gallery, he has championed local talent and cultivated a vibrant space for artistic dialogue. He is also the co-owner of Amphora Ceramic Studio in San Rafael, CA.
Since 2001, Robert has been dedicated to ceramic arts education, mentoring and inspiring the next generation of artists. He has taught at respected institutions including The Berkeley Art Studio and Laney College in Oakland, leaving a lasting impact on students and the ceramics community alike.
Since 2012, Robert has been a guiding presence at MVPS and Amphora Ceramic Studio, where he teaches ceramics and leads engaging raku workshops. His teaching goes beyond technique—he encourages students to connect meaningfully with the material and cultivate their own artistic voices with integrity and curiosity.
In the Bay Area art scene, Robert is more than an educator and curator—he’s a passionate advocate for creativity, craft, and community. His enduring commitment to the arts and genuine enthusiasm for teaching continue to enrich and inspire the region’s cultural landscape.

Pottery on the Wheel
with Robert Abrams
at Amphora Ceramic Studio
Set aside your Wednesday evenings to make space—for creativity, for calm, and for clay. Whether you're a total beginner or returning to the wheel to expand your skills, this course offers a supportive, hands-on environment where you can slow down and reconnect with the joy of making.
Under the thoughtful guidance of instructor Robert Abrams, you'll explore the fundamentals of wheel throwing—learning to center, pull, and shape clay into functional forms like bowls, mugs, and vases. More experienced students are invited to explore intermediate techniques such as trimming, surface design, and glaze application, with personalized instruction tailored to your goals.
